Dr. Michael Thaut

Dr. Michael Thaut received his masters and Ph.D. in music from Michigan State University, and is also a graduate of the Mozarteum Music Conservatory in Salzburg/Austria. Dr. Thaut is a Professor of Music and a Professor of Neuroscience in addition to serving as Co-Director of the School of the Arts and Chairman of the Department of Music, Theater, and Dance since 2001. He has also directed the Center for Biomedical Research in Music for 10 years. Dr. Thaut's internationally recognized research focuses on brain function in music, especially time information processing in the brain related to rhythmicity and biomedical applications of music to neurologic rehabilitation of cognitive and motor function. As a former professional violinist in the classic and folk genre, he has recorded several recordings of chamber and folk music in the US and Germany and has toured in Europe extensively with folk bands and chamber groups.

Dr. Patrick Fahey received his B.A. in Art Education from Viterbo College, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. In addition to serving as the Co-Director of the School of the Arts and Chairman of the Department of Art, Professor Fahey is the area coordinator for art education and teaches all levels of undergraduate art education. His current studio work involves using hand-made paper to create low and high relief sculptures. Professor Fahey also has been researching the "life-world" of art student-teachers and how they come to define themselves as teachers.

Gina Yowell Cochran's background as a theatre professional has included production management, stage management, design and technical coordination for many of the performing arts organizations in Fort Collins and the Northern Colorado region. Her association with CSU began in 1992 as the resident scenic/lighting designer and production manager for the Music Department's Shoestring Opera Company. She has since designed several productions for CSU's Café Theatre, and for each division within the Department of Music, Theatre and Dance. She was hired in 2004 as lighting designer/production manager for the Grand Opening Concert for the Edna Rizley Griffin Concert Hall and became the Manager for the University Center for the Arts shortly thereafter. She continues to serve as a technical consultant for local theatre and dance groups, as well as resident designer for CSU's Opera Theatre and Opera Fort Collins.

Jeanna Nixon received a Bachelor of Arts from Rice University and a Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Nonprofit Organizations from the University of Utah. Before joining the CSU School of the Arts in September 2006, she worked for a variety of nonprofit organizations in Utah and Montana in the areas of event planning, fundraising, graphic design, outreach, marketing, and public relations.

Jennifer Clary graduated from Colorado State University with a B.A. in Speech Communications and a minor in Music; since graduating she has enjoyed a career in marketing, publicity and graphic design in the music industry. Working for her alma matre is truly a melding of many things that are dear - her passion for classical music and marching band, the CSU music department, the preservation of the precious FCHS building and offering it all back to the community!

Sheryl Highsmith graduated from Colorado State University in 1990 with a B.S. in Psychology. She began working for the Department of Art in 1988. In 2005, her position expanded to include the Department of Music, Theatre and Dance and she was officially moved to the School of the Arts. She serves as the budget officer for the two departments and the school.

Heather Brooks graduated from Colorado State University in the fall of 2000 with a B.A. in Liberal Arts. The focus of her major was in Arts and Humanities courses and she also earned a minor in English. For five years after graduation, Heather worked in the Liberal Arts Dean’s office, supporting various programs and activities for the college. In the spring of 2006, she became a part of the School of the Arts with her role as Office Manager for the Department of Music, Theatre and Dance. Heather’s primary duties include assistance for Dr. Michael Thaut and coordinating administrative support within the Music, Theatre and Dance offices.
